Description
Yesterday’s Papers Late Edition looks at life on the Island between 1884 and 1969 as reported in the archives of the County Press. These are signed copies. For nearly 140 years the County Press has been at the centre of Island life, recording the highs and lows of Islanders’ lives week after week, providing the generous and full accounts that only local newspapers can. There have already been six volumes of Yesterday’s Papers covering these years but when compiling those volumes there were always too many items and not enough space for them so dozens of articles remained used. This compilation brings together those articles that were too good to lie buried in the archives. These County Press articles, seen at the time as nothing more than fleeting and ephemeral wallpaper, have left us with an unsurpassed archive providing generous accounts of Islanders’ lives – written by Islanders. They document the extraordinary changes in the life of Islanders during these years more faithfully and precisely than any history book. 172 pages and over 100 photographs and illustrations, many never seen before.
