This book, containing over 280 photos, gives an interesting mix of stories of the many modern shipwrecks and marine accidents that have occurred in the busy waters surrounding the Isle of Wight. These include some of the more serious incidents involving larger vessels, but also the multitude of smaller craft that have come to grief on the rocks and other obstructions in the area. With the close proximity of the many harbours and marinas within the Solent, the volume of leisure craft is enormous when compared to most other areas of the UK. Consequently, there have been many maritime accidents over recent decades, often involving difficult operations to recover the stricken vessels. Martin Woodward was involved in the majority of these local recoveries during the period of the late 1960s to the present day. Several stories are tragic, but many are lighthearted with an element of humour.
