This collection of advertisements is a companion to the ‘Yesterday’s Papers’ series of books by the same author.  Where they took a sideways glance at life on the Island between the years of 1884 and 1970 using County Press news reports, this book looks at some of the advertisements that accompanied those articles. The advertisements are a faithful barometer of Britain at any one point in time – as important a piece of social history as found in any text book.  They provide a contemporary record of how life changed during those years and offer degree-course lessons in the fashions, sexual attitudes and culture of the twentieth century.
